We are a team of passionate and professional gardeners offering highly skilled services, specializing in sustainable practices, permaculture, lower maintenance gardens, edibles, drought-tolerant and native plants, and designing the correct plants for the correct spaces.

We are experts at installing and fine-tuning irrigation systems for maximum efficiency. We install and maintain low-voltage lighting systems. Part-time Lead Gardener

We are looking for an individual to join our garden installation & maintenance team! We are in high demand and are looking for applicants that are interested in long-term opportunities. 99% of our gardens are located within San Francisco.

Must own a truck or other vehicle that can be used often to transport tools (brooms, shovels, etc.) between job locations within the San Francisco Bay area.

  • The position is currently part-time (beginning at 7-15 hours/week) with many opportunities for increasing amounts of work and advancement into managerial gardening positions if certain skill requirements are met. Our ideal candidate is someone that is interested in a long-term position with a highly successful and growing company.

  • • Driving to 1-5 garden locations in San Francisco per day.

    • Gardening solo, and sometimes managing a crew of 1-3 other garden assistants.

    • Specialty pruning, seasonal pruning.

    • Share pruning and plant skills, etc. with other assistants.

    • Ensure that seasonal plant duties are performed in the correct manner and at the correct time.

    • Basic to intermediate client interfacing.

    • Figuring out scheduling & travel logistics on days that lead gardener is driving.

    • Light construction and hardscape work from time to time.

    • Record client expenses, purchase supplies when needed. Record client garden and plant notes.

    • Typical tasks include weeding, pruning, annual & perennial plant care, container care, IPM, monitoring irrigation and low-voltage lighting systems, fertilizing, landscape removals & plantings.

    • Installation tasks include light soil grading, irrigation installation and repair, installation of plants up to 24” boxes, low-voltage lighting installation and repair, hauling & distribution of bark, hauling & setting of flagstone & cobblestone, moderate level wood working, smaller retaining wall installs.

    • Heavy lifting and 8’ ladder work may occur from time to time.

  • • Completion of at least 2 years of horticultural experience (landscaping, nurseries, construction).

    • A valid driver’s license, clean DMV record, & a vehicle that can haul long items such as brooms.

    • Ability to provide own pruners and weeding devices.

    • 1-2 years minimum experience in leadership, and/or managerial roles.

    • Ability to be highly organized (recording information neatly and fully, keeping tools in the correct locations, etc.), a self-starter, and able to work efficiently and properly without supervision.

    • Ability to prioritize & complete work efficiently by keeping track of total time worked by crew, and working within maximum duration caps.

    • A winning personality, optimistic attitude, eye for detail, & a love of horticulture & physical labor.

    • Ability to interact with clients in a knowledgeable and friendly manner.

    • A curiosity for nature and the desire to learn.

    • Ability to safely and repeatedly lift 35 pounds and to do gardening labor for up to 7 hours a day.

  • • Skills in carpentry, hardscaping, drip irrigation systems, and low voltage lighting systems.

    • Ability to identify many common local plants by name & know their light & water preferences.

    • Knowledge of California natives and edibles.

  • Competitive starting wage is determined by the knowledge and experience of the applicant. Pay rate will increase considerably over time for those that are highly skilled and work well with us.
